In the late 70's, Abbott Associates produced office supplies and kit-components, for surgical instrument companies on the East Coast. Being chosen as the supplier of choice for several device MDM's, we noticed a growing trend and need for medical pouches and printing, utilizing Tyvek®. We decided to fold that into our line of offerings; however it was only about 10% of our business at that time.
Fast forward to the late 90's, the continued trend utilizing Tyvek® for medical pouches and lids continued to grow, so we decided to change the company's direction and restructured the business... a calculated risk that paid off. We vastly increased capacity, increased equipment and inventory to make the changes necessary to grow our business in the right direction.
In 2008 we moved our main offices to a 10,000 sq. ft. facility in Milford CT, that would allow for expansion of our business model and house additional volume of materials. With the newer facility we could offer the shortest lead times with increased volume holding capacity with immediate delivery, giving us the edge over the competition.
Abbot Associates began a new trend in the medical packaging industry and it continues to be the backbone of our company’s Mission Statement; offer our customers the highest quality of product with the quickest delivery possible. The current competitors standards of long lead times, generally 8-10 weeks, leaves the customer frustrated and ultimately lowering expectations for suppliers to deliver quality products quickly.
Jump to today. Abbott Associates has tripled in sales and our business is now heavily weighted towards Tyvek® pouches/lids and printing, with only a small percentage still producing the original kit-components. Our company has not only has grown in volume and sales, but has incorporated several new departments over the last 10 years; to a full time R&D department staffed with QA inspector and an Engineer, we have a fully computerized pre-press system to allow for electronic artwork, a complete printing department that can handle both small and large volume jobs quickly and with precise clean work; additionally a Sales & Marketing department to generate and manage all our accounts as well as branding within the market.
Abbott Associates adheres to the FDA cGMP's 21 CFR part 820 registration our quality system currently follows and is working towards ISO 13485. We continue to upgrade to the newest equipment and are a growing business. Abbott Associates maintains a quality manual, management control procedures and work instructions to insure the quality and consistency of our products.
